Sanctions and trade wars – what should fruit and vegetable market operators expect in Russia?

For the past few weeks, as well as repeatedly in the past years, the Russian fruit and vegetable policy has been to a greater or lesser degree characterized by political bias and bans on imports of both fresh and processed fruits and vegetables as well as seeds. In addition, the foreign economic situation only aggravated after introduction of sanctions by the EU and USA and counter measures from the side of Russia.

What should fruit and vegetable market operators expect under those conditions in Russia? This question will be covered at the 7th Annual International Conference «Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia-2014» in the presentation of Mr. Petr Chekmarev, Director of Department of Plant-Growing, Chemicalization and Plant Protection, Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. The speaker will also present the information on the external factors' impact on development of Russia's economy, inclusive of the fruit and vegetable sector, changes in the import geography as well as import substitution potential in the Russian market.

For the first time ever, the conference will include the round table with Rosselkhoznadzor (Russian veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog) officers to be held specially for the conference delegates. An hour-long discussion will focus on phytosanitary and quarantine requirements to fruit and vegetable shipments to Russia, relevant regulations and most frequent violations. The discussion will be held in an open format as close to a question-answer scheme as possible.

The conference program will also include a detailed analysis of the impact on the largest sectors in the Russian fruit and vegetable market: potatoes, seeds, greenhouse produce, apples etc. More detailed information about the conference program is available here.

We would remind you that the conference will be held on September 16 in conjunction with the largest food exhibition in Russia - WorldFood Moscow 2014.

More detailed information about the conference, program, conditions of participation and application form are available on the official web-site.
