Ukrainian fruit and vegetable processors consider Rosselkhoznadzor's complaints groundless

According to Fruit-Inform, Ukrainian fruit and vegetable processors consider Rosselkhoznadzor's complaints about the quality of canned products groundless with the ban on their imports introduced by Russia to be politically motivated.

Rosselkhoznadzor connected the ban with repeated violations of Russian legislation on protection of consumer rights by several Ukrainian canneries.

In their turn, Ukrainian enterprises are sure that the ban has been introduced due to the so-called «trade war» waged by Russia on Ukraine, the EU and countries that have recently ratified the Association Agreement with the EU (Moldova, for example).

«There had been no complaints about the quality of Ukrainian products before the political situation with Russia worsened», says a representative of a Ukrainian cannery. «After the situation had aggravated, Russia found a variety of defects and non-conformities in products from Ukraine and other countries that would support Ukraine in conflict with Russia. As a result, there was a wave of sanctions and limitations».

It should be noted that Ukraine annually exports about 45% of canned vegetables and about 20% of juices manufactured in the country with Russia as the largest export market for them. The Russian Federation accounts for about 70% of Ukraine's total exports of canned vegetables and up to 40% of Ukraine's total exports of juices. Nevertheless, Ukrainian fruit and vegetable processors still do not plan to modify their manufacturing plans in connection with Russia's ban and hope that the decision was «impulsive» and the ban would soon be lifted.
