Onion prices up in Ukraine

According to Fruit-Inform, onion prices have become averagely 12% higher in Ukraine since the beginning of this week.

For the present, growers are ready to ship onions at UAH 1.40-1.70/kg (EUR 0.08-0.09/kg), depending on quality and shipment volume. An increase in prices is connected with limited supply of onions in the country due to abundant rainfall.

Furthermore, the demand of wholesale companies from the eastern regions of Ukraine went up.

Positive price performance disappointed Ukrainian exporters, who planned to start shipping onions to Russia this week. For the present, Russian companies' purchase prices are at least 20% lower than Ukrainian farms' selling ones.

It should also be noted that onions are still significantly less expensive in Ukraine. We would remind you that in the same period of the previous season prices were 2-2.5 times as high as now.
