Russia: carrot prices twice as high as last year

Carrot prices are already twice as high as registered in Russia in the same period of the previous season and keep on rapidly growing. According to Fruit-Inform daily price monitoring, prices of domestic carrots have gone up by 11-15% since the beginning of this week.

In the majority of cases, farmers offer carrots at RUB 20-25/kg (USD 0.27-0.34/kg). Some growers fix even higher prices. For comparison, a week before, carrots were shipped at no higher than RUB 22/kg (USD 0.34/kg).

Positive price performance is observed thanks to a rapid decrease in the domestic supply of carrots. Many farmers have already sold their stocks, and the majority of large farms ship carrots only in contracted volumes.

It should be noted that prices have been growing despite availability of large volumes of Ukrainian carrots shipped to Russia through Crimea.

More detailed information about the trends observed in the Eastern European market for potatoes and traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbage, carrots, table beets) will be presented at the 7th International Conference «Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine-2015» to be held on February 27, 2015, Kiev, Ukraine.
