Russia: prices of Serbian Idared apples down in Moscow

Prices of Serbian Idared apples continue to go down in Moscow despite further devaluation of the Russian ruble.

Those apples have become 5-7% less expensive since the beginning of February, and now sellers are ready to ship them at 0.70-0.84 euro/kg, an increase of just 15% year-on-year.

The negative price performance is connected with a decrease in the demand for relatively expensive apples in Russia against a background of a general fall in Russians' paying capacity.

We would remind you that Serbia managed to become the leader in apple exports to Russia under conditions of the ban on imports from the EU and Moldova. Russia purchased 61,000 tons of Serbian apples in July-November 2014, an increase of 70% year-on-year and the highest result over at least 5 past years. As a result, Serbian accounted for the share of about a third in Russia's total apple imports in that period.
