Strawberry prices down by 25% in Crimea, Ukraine, over weekend

According to Fruit-Inform, prices of local strawberries have fallen by 21-25% at Crimean wholesale markets over the past weekend.

In particular, sellers at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, are now ready to ship strawberries at RUB 180-220/kg (USD 3.20-3.91/kg), while in the end of the previous week prices were not lower than RUB 240/kg (USD 4.27/kg).

Prices have fallen due to an increase in local supply of strawberries and stable shipments of berries from mainland Ukraine, which prices often go down to RUB 160/kg (USD 2.84/kg) at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market. It should also be noted that Ukrainian strawberries have become averagely 15% less expensive in Crimea over the weekend.

At the same time, despite negative trend, strawberry prices are now averagely two times and a half as high as registered in Crimea a year before. However, the local market participants expect more significant fall in prices in late May, after arrival of first volumes of field-grown berries.

More detailed information about the Ukrainian berry market developments and outlook will be presented at the 6th International Conference «Berries of Ukraine-2015: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market». The conference will be held on May 21-22, 2015, Kiev, Ukraine.
