Further seasonal decline in Ukrainian fresh produce price index

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has declined 11% in the week from June 20th to 26th, after two weeks of relative stability, thanks to weather conditions favorable to harvesting early produce.

«Fruits (mainly berries and stonefruits) accounted for the largest share in Ukrainians' fresh produce consumption in June. Last week growers said of the start of active raspberry, apricot, sour cherry and currant harvesting, and the sweet cherry season was at its peak», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Nevertheless, despite a decrease of 2.6%, the fresh fruit price index still was relatively high thanks to active demand for Ukrainian fruits in Russia».

Greenhouse vegetables also made their contribution to a decline in Ukrainian fresh produce price index, as they became 25% less expensive. Nevertheless, their prices can grow again this week in view of worse weather conditions.

Prices of traditional vegetables also fell by 14.2% week-on-week. The sharpest declines in prices were registered in the segments of red beets, carrots and onions, while white cabbage prices were stable. Potato prices went down just slightly: -1.2%.
