Production of French apples significantly up year-on-year

French apple production has significantly grown compared with the previous year, according to FreshPlaza.

French growers managed to harvest about 1.63 mln tons of apples as of November 1, 2015, an increase of 7% year-on-year. It should be noted that WAPA analysts expected French apple production to total 1.59 mln tons in 2015.

International experts also say of better quality of French apples this year, and, according to local growers, moderate rainfall in autumn had a favorable effect on fruit size.

In total, apple production in the EU has reached 11.97 mln tons, a decrease of 5% year-on-year but 11% higher than average in the past 5 years.
