Currant prices to decrease in Ukraine in nearest 5 years

Blackcurrants are extremely inexpensive in Ukraine this year with currant prices varying between UAH 22-25/kg (EUR 0.73-0.91/kg) and expected to go down, says Mr. Taras Bashtannik, Director at Ukrainian Berry.

Mr. Bashtannik also expects prices to be low in the nearest five years.

“The Ukrainian market also depends on Poland. For the present, there is overproduction in Poland, and it will be in effect for a long time”, he says.

In contrast to sweet cherries, weather conditions have not affected blackcurrants.

“This year there is overproduction of blackcurrants. Despite bad weather conditions, yields are high this year”, he adds.
