Leading experts of European apple business to gather in Kiev on August 9

A rapid increase in areas under modern orchards in Ukraine and growing apple imports in Russia keep on attracting attention of leading global experts to those markets. For that reason, Kiev will gather leading specialists in apple growing, trade, handling, storage and processing to discuss last achievements in technological development and marketing in the apple business at the 2nd International Conference “Apple Business of Ukraine & Russia – 2012”.

The Russian apple market is also widely covered by the conference program and attracts high interest thanks to being the biggest and one of the most rapidly growing in Europe. This subject area is of especial interest when taking into account Russia's accession to the WTO that, according to Fruit-Inform's estimates, will lead to higher apple consumption and imports in the Russian Federation.

“Ukraine is currently the 4th biggest apple producer in Europe and is among 11-12 biggest producers in the world. At the same time, as regards areas under apple orchards, Ukraine enters the group of 8 biggest apple countries that shows its significant potential in growth of production efficiency and further increase in Ukraine's apple supply”, Mr. Andriy Yarmak, Author of Fruit-Inform Project, says. “At the same time, Russia is one of the biggest global importers of apples and represents one of the most rapidly developing apple markets of the world. It is those facts to arouse high interest to our event, as Ukrainian and Russian producers will be able to get acquainted with advanced technological achievements enabling to increase yields and improve quality of produce, while international suppliers will be able to assess the prospects and niches in the Russian apple market during the conference”.

It should be noted that the conference participants will be able to get acquainted with most recent official apple production and price estimates for the world and Europe as well as detailed forecast for Russia and Ukraine. The global forecast will be presented by Mrs. Raquel Izquierdo de Santiago, Deputy Secretary General of WAPA (World Apple and Pear Association), while Mrs. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, will speak on the Russian and Ukrainian apple prospects.
