Moldova: significant fall in apple export prices

The apple harvesting campaign has just started in Moldova, but growers' prices are already half as high as in the same period of the previous season due to Russia's ban on imports of Moldovan apples. Thus, growers from Moldova have lost the major target market for their produce. We would remind you that Moldova used to export up to 70% of its total apple outputs with Russia accounting for the share of about 90% in Moldova's total apple exports.

Moldovan farmers are now actively seeking for new export markets with Romania, Belarus and Kazakhstan as most promising. Prices of Moldovan apples are not higher than $0.25-0.27/kg, while in the beginning of August 2013 prices varied between $0.50-0.55/kg.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the Eastern European apple market developments and outlook will be presented at the 4th International Conference “Apple Business of Ukraine-2014”. The conference will be held on August 14-15, 2014, Feride Plaza, Vinnytsia, Ukraine. More detailed information about the event is available on the official web-site.
