Sharp increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 12% in the week from August 23rd to 29th, after a decrease of 2.9% a week before.

«Almost all fresh produce categories became more expensive last week with the largest contribution to the price growth having been made by fruits, which prices had grown by 17.1%», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «The inter-season period in the apple market leading to higher prices of apples coincided with unstable situation in the currency market, which had resulted in an increase in prices of imported fruits».

In addition, seasonal vegetables became more expensive due to changes of weather conditions, and prices of potatoes and traditional vegetables slightly went up thanks to rainy weather in the western regions, which are their significant producers.
