Russia: total apple production in 2013/14 highest over past 7 years
Russia's total apple production in the season 2013/14 was the highest over the past 7 years.
According to the official statistics, Russian growers picked slightly less than 1,65 mln tons of apples in the previous season, an increase of 12% year-on-year.
An increase in production was observed thanks to higher yields in Russian apple farms. They averaged 67.4 tons per ha, an increase of 14% year-on-year and the highest result over the past 5 years. Meanwhile, total areas under apple orchards in Russia went down by 2%.
