Ukrainian fresh produce price index up due to higher sales for export and instable currency exchange rates

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 3.5% in the week from December 5th to 12th. As a result, the price index has been growing for the 6th week in a row and has become 42.5% higher over that period.

«Fruits made the largest contribution to an increase in the fresh produce price index last week, as their prices grew due to the devaluation of the Ukrainian hryvnia», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «An increase in prices of greenhouse tomatoes should also be noted. At the same time, greenhouse cucumbers became slightly less expensive».

Among traditional vegetables, the price growth was registered in the segments of carrots and white cabbage. An increase in prices was also observed in all fruit segments. The lowest price growth rates were registered in the apple segment due to still insignificant imports of apples. The sharpest ones were observed in the segments of mandarins and lemons: up by 15% week-on-week. If the currency market situation does not stabilize, their prices will most likely continue growing due to closer holidays.
