Further decrease in Russia's pear imports

Russia keeps on reducing pear imports in the current season, according to the official statistics.

In particular, Russian importers purchased just 16,000 tons of pears in October 2014, a fall of 43% compared with the same month of the previous year. Russia's cumulative imports of pears in the period from July to October 2014 totaled 58,000 tons, a decrease of 25% year-on-year.

A fall in imports is registered due to Russia's ban on foodstuffs imports from the EU. We would remind you that the EU countries accounted for 83% of Russia's total pear imports in July-October 2013. As regards the current season, pears are imported mainly from China, Argentina and South Africa.
