Ukraine: Crimean middlemen provoke price growth in carrot market

Carrot prices have been growing in Ukraine and now are already 20-25% higher than registered a week before, according to Fruit-Inform.

Positive price performance is observed thanks to high demand from Crimean middlemen, who purchase Ukrainian carrots for re-sales to Russia. The most active sales to Crimea are now registered in the southern regions of Ukraine, while growers from other regions are focused mainly on the internal market.

It should also be noted that carrot prices have already reached last year's levels in the majority of Ukrainian regions, and farmers from the western regions now fix prices, which are 20% higher year-on-year.

More detailed information about the Eastern European carrot market outlook will be presented at the 7th International Conference «Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine-2015», which will be held on February 27, 2015, Kiev, Ukraine.
