Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index down due to seasonal trends

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 4.8% in the week from April 2nd to 8th, after a slight increase of 0.3% in the previous week. Negative price trend was connected with a seasonal rise in supply of several produce categories in the market.

«Arrival of early white cabbages was the main even in the fruit and vegetable market last week; however, white cabbages were the only category, which prices had grown, as last year's produce still accounted for the largest part of consumption», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Meanwhile, the fresh produce price index went down mainly thanks to an increase in the supply of cucumbers and a fall of 23.5% in their prices».

Fruit prices were stable for the first time over long period, and the demand for fruits was weak. Prices of traditional vegetables and potatoes went up by 0.8% due to slightly more expensive last year's white cabbages. Potato prices were stable last week.
