Ukraine: prices of cucumbers, tomatoes, cherries and berries up week-on-week

Fruit and vegetable prices have grown averagely by 7% in Ukraine last week.

According to Fruit-Inform, due to problems with cucumber outputs, farms’ prices of those vegetables have grown by 35% week-on-week. We would remind you that Ukrainian growers have reported of significant losses of their cucumber crop due to diseases, hot weather conditions and drought.

The Ukrainian market was also characterized by shortage of supply of tomatoes last week; therefore, tomato prices have grown by 47% and reached record high.

In addition, fresh berries and cherries also became more expensive in Ukraine. Due to a seasonal decrease in supply, sour cherry prices went up by 20%, while those fixed for currants and raspberries grew by 12.5% and 6%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the supply of apricots and peaches was growing thanks to more active shipments from domestic farms and Moldova. As a result, apricot prices went down by 14% in Ukraine last week, while peaches became 40% less expensive.

At the same time, prices of traditional vegetables were stable in the majority of cases. Negative price trend was observed only in the red been segment due to shortage of supply and extremely low purchasing activity.
