Poland: tomato prices down over weekend

The price situation has sharply changed in the Polish tomato market after steady price growth last week. According to Fruit-Inform, tomatoes have become almost 10% less expensive in Poland over the weekend.

In particular, current prices fixed by Polish growers vary between 0.50-0.61 euro/kg, depending on quality. For comparison, prices were not lower than 0.53 euro/kg in the end of the past week.

The market analysts connect such a negative price trend with an increase in the supply of field-grown tomatoes and rather large supply of greenhouse produce.

It should also be noted that current tomato prices are still 2.2 times as high as fixed in the end of July 2015. Meanwhile, the Polish market participant expect a decrease in prices to only accelerate due to growing supply of field-grown produce.
