Crimea: tomato prices fall by a third

Tomato prices have been rapidly falling in Crimea after the holidays, according to Fruit-Inform. As a result, they are significantly lower year-on-year.

Tomatoes have become 35-47% less expensive at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, over a week, and now are offered at RUB 100-150/kg (USD 1.68-2.53/kg), depending on quality and shipment volume. We would remind you that a week before prices often reached RUB 230/kg (USD 3.87/kg).

The Crimean market participants connect a sharp fall in prices with a significant decrease in trading activity after the holidays. Meanwhile, quality of stocks is rapidly worsening, and this fact also forces sellers to reduce their prices.

It should also be noted that current prices of tomatoes are averagely 22% lower year-on-year in Crimea.
