Moldova sets produce quality standards on a par with Europe

Moldova will set the quality standards for its fruit and vegetables on a par with European and international quality standards, reports NOI.md.

The list of fresh fruits and vegetables affected by this change includes apples, pears, table grapes, strawberries, peaches and nectarines, sweet peppers, tomatoes or lettuce. There will also be new specific requirements for the sorting, grading, packaging and labelling of products, which should facilitate the access of Moldovan firms to the European market. According to the document, fruits and vegetables will be divided into categories, depending on the quality grade, appearance and shape.

The document does not apply to products produced by households for their own consumption, in transit through Moldova or to fruit and vegetables intended for industrial or household processing.

The special standards approved by the Government of Moldova will ensure the establishment of minimum quality requirements for fresh fruit and vegetables and lead to the production of higher quality products, thereby protecting the rights and interests of consumers. The amendments have been designed in the framework of the commitments made with the signing of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union.
