Onion prices up in Crimea

The demand for onions has been rapidly growing in Crimea; therefore, sellers manage to continue to raise their prices day by day, according to Fruit-Inform.

In the meantime, sellers from Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, offer their onions at RUB 18-35/kg (USD 0.31-0.61/kg), depending on quality and shipment volume, an increase of 30-38% over the past weekend.

The Crimean market operators connect such a rapid rise in prices with feverish demand for onions  shown by Russian companies. Meanwhile, Crimean farms’ stocks are almost exhausted, which also backs the price growth in the local market.

It should also be noted that onion prices have already grown by 50% in Crimea compared with a year before and are expected to continue to increase in view of rather active sales rates of onions and a seasonal decrease in their supply.
