Poland: price of sour cherries for freezing almost quadruple year-on-year

Polish IQF processors have faced serious problems with buying necessary volumes of sour cherries, according to FreshMarket, and raise their purchase prices.

Now IQF processors are ready to buy sour cherries at 1.12-1.23 euro/kg, an increase of 27% week-on-week.

Meanwhile, prices of sour cherries for jams have been growing less rapidly. They are now varying between 0.47-0.52 euro/kg, an increase of just 4% week-on-week.

It should also be noted that current prices of sour cherries for jams are already 2.4 times as high as registered in the second half of July 2016. Meanwhile, IQF processors buy sour cherries at prices 3.6-3.7 times as high as a year before. However, both types of processors say of shortage of supply of raw produce in the market. Moreover, Polish growers have announced their plans to finish their sour cherry season in the nearest time. Under those conditions, the market players expect prices of sour cherries for processing to grow by the end of this week.
