Polish berry production down in 2017

In 2017 Polish berry production is significantly lower year-on-year, according to FreshMarket.

The preliminary estimates of the Central Statistical Office of Poland put Polish berry production at 500,000 tons in 2017, a decrease of 15% year-on-year. A fall in production is connected with spring frosts, when the majority of berry plantations were in blooming stage.

As a result, total production of strawberries went down by 10% in Poland and totaled just 177,000 tons.

Production of currants decreased by 20% and amounted to 130,000 tons, with 100,000 of them represented by blackcurrants.

Polish production of raspberries is preliminary estimated at 100,000 tons, a fall of 20% year-on-year; however, the market analysts expect the final result to be slightly higher thanks to everbearing varieties.
