Cucumber and tomato prices have grown 1.5 times before the holidays

Pre-holiday demand growth for fruits and vegetables along with the limited supply caused the significant price increase for some vegetables in Ukraine. According to the information provided to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal by the Market Information Specialists of the Agricultural Marketing Project, today small greenhouse tomato shipments of Ukrainian origin cost $2.9/kg on FARMER wholesale market in Kyiv, Troyeschina residential area. Imported Turkish tomato is sold for $2.1-2.3/kg.

Cucumber prices grew too. Mostly Ukrainian greenhouse cucumber is supplied for sale, and its price has increased significantly up to $2.9/kg.

We'll remind that tomato price was $1.76-1.96/kg ten days ago; but it was true only for imported products. A decade ago cucumber cost $1.86-2.35/kg depending from the size.

Pepper grew expensive as well, from $2.54/kg to $3.13/kg.

Cucumber and tomato price growth is traditional before the Easter, Maxim Yenchenko says, the AMP Market Information Specialist. The same situation was observed a year ago; still, tomatoes were somewhat cheaper. The price increase 30-40% was recorded for tomatoes, 50% for cucumbers.
