Russia & Ukraine: Smaller combined sunflower seed production forecast
Sunflower seed production forecast for 2002 for Ukraine and Russia was lowered by around 300,000 to 6.0mn MT due to smaller area planted to the crop in Russia. If achieved, this crop will be 1mn MT larger than past year's. Despite such a significant production increase, combined exports of sunflower seeds are not likely to exceed 300-400 MT as both countries have high export duties and their domestic crushing industries are being developed very dynamically.
