Crimea, Ukraine: apple prices almost double year-on-year

Apple prices have almost doubled in Crimea, Ukraine, compared with the same period of the previous season.

For the present, sellers at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market offer apples at UAH 5.50-12.80/kg (USD 0.42-0.97/kg), depending on quality, variety and shipment volume, an increase of 60-80% year-on-year.

The market experts connect such a price situation with high demand for apples from Russian companies due to the ban on imports from Poland and Moldova. Furthermore, the current margin of Crimean growers is at least three times as high as Ukrainian producers' one thanks to no customs barriers between Crimea and Russia.

It should also be noted that apple production in Crimea will be 10-15% lower year-on-year that will also back the price growth in the peninsula.
