Ukraine ranks 2nd in carrot exports to Russia in August

Ukraine managed to become the second largest exporter of carrots to the Russian Federation in August 2014. Furthermore, it was the first time in the Ukrainian history, when carrots from Ukraine were supplied to Russia in August. As a rule, the Ukrainian carrot export season started in November and peaked in January-February.

In June-August 2014 Ukraine has also quadrupled its carrot exports to Russia compared with the same period of the previous season, according to Fruit-Inform.

Fruit-Inform analysts believe that Ukraine's carrot exports went up in August thanks to introduction of the ban on imports from the EU in Russia. The EU countries accounted for the share of about 40% in Russia's total carrot imports in August 2013.

We would remind you that Russia's imports of carrots traditionally peak in April-May. Taking into account good production prospects in Ukraine, the country may face record high carrot exports to Russia in the current season.
