Ukraine more than doubles imports of Polish apples since the start of the season

Ukraine's imports of Polish apples in the first three months of the season 2014/15 were two and a half times as high as in the same period of the previous season and totaled 3,000 tons.

Nevertheless, despite such an increase in exports, Poland was just the second largest exporter of apples to Ukraine and accounted for the share of 41% in Ukraine's total imports with Moldova being the leader with the share of 56%.

Under conditions of the ban on imports from the EU and Moldova introduced by Russia, Ukraine became one of the most promising alternative export markets for suppliers from those countries. Moreover, a sharp fall in prices of Polish and Moldovan apples enabled them to successfully compete with domestic produce in the Ukrainian market.

We would remind you that Poland was the absolute leader in apple exports to Ukraine in the season 2013/14 with the share of 95-97% in Ukraine's total imports.
