Imported apples restrain price growth in Crimea, Ukraine

Apple prices stabilized in Crimea thanks to regular shipments of imported apples from mainland Ukraine.

Crimean middlemen now prefer imported apples, which have better quality to price ratio compared with local produce. As of the mid-November 2014, Polish apples were offered in Crimea at RUB 25-28/kg (EUR 0.39-0.43/kg). For comparison, prices of high-quality Crimean apples have reached RUB 35-40/kg (EUR 0.54-0.62/kg), and local produce of low quality is shipped at no lower than RUB 18-20/kg (EUR 0.28-0.31/kg).

Crimean wholesale companies say of a steady increase in the demand for imported apples in the peninsula with Russian middlemen showing especially high interest in them.
