Ukraine: further growth in fresh produce price index

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 7.2% in the week from November 15th to 21st, after an increase of 11% a week before. As a result, the fresh produce price index has grown by 31% over the past 4 weeks.

«An increase in the price index was again registered thanks to a seasonal rise in prices of cucumbers and tomatoes last week with imported produce playing a key role in the sector», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform.

The segment of traditional vegetables and potatoes has for the first time over long period been characterized by price stability. However, growers were unsatisfied with such a situation, as they had to sell their produce at record low prices with no prospects of their growth expected in the nearest time.

Fruit prices also were stable in the majority of cases. The fresh fruit price index went down just by 0.4% due to a slight decrease in banana prices connected with stably low demand for them.
