Russia: demand for apples down in Krasnodar Krai

Growers from Krasnodar Krai (Russia) say of a decrease in the demand for apples. The supply has significantly grown in the region this week, according to the market participants, as farmers with still available stocks started more actively selling their apples (especially those, which quality had worsened during long-term storage).

As a result, higher supply has negatively affected sales rates. However, it still has had no effect on prices. As a week before, prices of high-quality apples vary between RUB 30-50/kg (USD 0.43-0.72/kg), depending on variety and shipment volume, in Krasnodar Krai.

It should be noted that current prices are already 2-2.3 times as high as registered in the same period of the previous season. A year-on-year increase in prices is observed due to introduction of the ban on imports from the EU, Moldova and other countries.
