Poland: further increase in prices of Idared apples

Prices of Idared apples have been growing in Poland for the second week in a row. For the present, those apples are shipped at 0.13-0.25 euro/kg, depending on quality, an increase of 5-7% week-on-week. At the same time, despite growth, prices are still half as high as registered in the same period of the previous year. For comparison, Idared apples were offered at 0.24-0.41 euro/kg, depending on quality, in the mid-February 2014.

The market participants connect an increase in prices with exporters' more active demand for those apples, which are purchased mainly by middlemen involved in exports to Russia through third countries.

We would remind you that that the demand for Idared apples was extremely low in Poland in this season due to the ban on imports introduced by Russia, which had previously been the main target market for those apples.
