Ukraine's apple imports increase sevenfold in 1st half of season 2014/15

Ukraine's imports of apples have increased sevenfold in the first half of the season 2014/15.

The import volumes totaled 15,000 tons against just 2,500 tons in the same period of the previous season. Moldova and Poland accounted for more than 90% of Ukraine's total imports.

The apple market analysts believe that the largest part of apples imported by Ukraine was then re-exported to Russia. Before October those apples were shipped to Russia as Ukrainian produce, and then as Crimean apples. At the same time, consumption of imported apples has seriously fallen in Ukraine due to the devaluation of the national currency.
