Ukraine: prices of traditional vegetables and fruits up, greenhouse vegetables less expensive last week

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 3.3% in the week from April 18th to 24th, after a fall of 14% a week before. The price index decreased due to a sharp fall in prices of greenhouse vegetables, while traditional vegetables and fruits became more expensive.

«Trends in the segment of traditional vegetables did not change last week: prices kept on growing against a background of limited supply of high-quality produce», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «At the same time, potatoes became less expensive in view of their supply steadily prevailing over the demand».

Prices of greenhouse vegetables went down by 30% due to a seasonal factor. Fruit prices grew by 4.1%: a rise in prices of apples and mandarins was partially compensated by a slight decrease in banana prices.

Potatoes remained the most affordable fresh produce category in Ukraine, and their prices were lower than UAH 2/kg (EUR 0.08/kg). The highest prices are quoted for tomatoes, and they average UAH 37/kg (EUR 1.49/kg).
