Ukraine: pear consumption down for 1st time over past 5 years
The pear market volume will most likely go down in Ukraine for the first time over the past 5 years. The Ukrainian market experts expect the pear sales to total just 140,000 tons in the season 2014/15, a decrease of 5% year-on-year.
A year-on-year fall in sales will be registered due to a general decrease in the pear supply in Ukraine and a sharp fall in pear imports. According to the official statistics, Ukrainian pear production reached just 157,000 tons in 2014, a decrease of 7% year-on-year. Moreover, the supply of imported pears has almost halved in Ukraine compared with the previous season.
