Supply of imported apple grows in Poland

Polish internal market wholesale companies are forced to import apples from other EU countries due to exporters’ high demand for domestic apples, which are then re-shipped to Russia through third countries.

Polish growers’ stocks are almost exhausted, and prices of domestic apples often reach 0.55 euro/kg. Under those conditions, Polish wholesale companies are ready to purchase produce in other EU countries, and prices of those apples are averagely 10-12% lower than those fixed for domestic produce. For comparison, imported apples are offered at 0.35-0.50 euro/kg, depending on quality, in Poland.

We would remind you that the demand for Polish apples was rather low in the first half of the season 2014/15 due to problems with shipments to Russia in view of the ban on imports introduced there.
