Ukraine: table grape consumption extremely low

The table grape consumption is extremely low in Ukraine and takes only an eleventh of recommended intake level, said Mr. Vladimir Yarmilka, Master of Agriculture, International Grape Market Expert, at the 6th International Conference «Berries of Ukraine-2015: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market».

According to him, the per capita consumption of table grapes totals just 1.09 kg in Ukraine, while recommended intake level stands at 12 kg. «Such a low consumption level is connected with price disparity, unsatisfactory production situation and lack of modern storage and processing facilities in Ukraine», Mr. Yarmilka pointed out.

He sees an increase in table grape production as an optimal way out. For the present, the Ukrainian table grape market volume totals about 450,000-500,000 tons annually, 70% of which are represented by imports.
