Ukraine: prices of traditional vegetables quadruple year-on-year

Prices of traditional vegetables have quadrupled in Ukraine year-on-year, according to Fruit-Inform.

The highest increase in prices was registered in the white cabbage market: up 6.1 times year-on-year. However, white cabbage harvesting has just started in Ukraine, and prices will change significantly. Carrot prices have quadrupled, and onion ones have grown 3.5 times compared with early October 2014. Red beets are 2.7 times more expensive year-on-year.

Potato prices have grown by 58.8% compared with the same period of the previous season. However, the market participants expect a further increase in them due to unfavorable weather conditions. In addition, the price growth will be backed by shortage of floating assets due to previous unsuccessful seasons, devaluation of the national currency and lack of bank financing of field works.

We would remind you that more detailed information about current developments in the Russian and Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market is available for the subscribers of Fruit-Inform service packages.
