Russia is expected to impose import quotas for food, first of all poultry, meat & dairy products and sugar

Russia Parliament (Duma) is expected to submit to the government draft law "About Quotas", according to Strana.ru with a reference to Vladimir Semenov, Duma's deputy. First products to fact limitation of imports will be poultry, meat & dairy products and sugar. Jorge Bush has signed agriculture support program just a week ago with US $190bn available for this purpose during the next 10 years. This, according to the source, basically means a "food war" and higher import duties all over the world. Since Russia does not have money to support agriculture at the comparable scale with the USA, the best way out is to impose quotas. It is expected that the law may be adopted in the autumn of 2002.
