Prices for Turkish lemon increased 30-40% in average comparing to past year

As soon as first shipments of lemons of Turkish origin entered Ukrainian market, the prices for these products started increasing. According to information provided by the companies-importers to the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Fruits and Vegetables" weekly, this situation is primarily predetermined by low harvest of lemons in Turkey. As of today, the importers offer first shipments of lemons for $1.24-1.28/kg; at the same period of time past year the range of sales prices was recorded on the level $0.68-0.79/kg. The suppliers continue complaining on weak sales, because the wholesalers of the inner market are reluctant to purchase new products. As a rule they form stocks to sell during 2-3 days.

In their turn, the wholesale companies explain the restrained mode of purchases by high prices and small shipments of lemons and other citrus fruits supplied nowadays to Ukraine. Many buyers count on the resumed massive supplies of Turkish lemons by the end of October; they believe, a certain price decline should follow. However, a number of suppliers are almost sure that the positive price dynamics on the market of Turkish lemons will be preserved in future. Also, to the opinion of some experts, this situation may possibly stimulate the price increase for Turkish tangerines, oranges and grapefruits.
