European fruits and vegetables arrive in Russia

Russia, United States and Japan are target countries for three-year initiative from 2008-2010

(Bologna, 1 September 2008) European Flavors takes its place at World Food Moscow this year as the new initiative for promoting the consumption of fresh and processed European fruits and vegetables in key target markets such as Russia, the United States and Japan. The global campaign, which will focus on the positive health benefits and strong nutritional qualities of the products, is supported by an investment of €4m, of which the EU will contribute 50% of funds, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture 30% and the balance of 20% by CSO members.

The initiative will focus on fresh produce (such as oranges, pears, peaches, nectarines, kiwifruit and plums), for the most part certified as PGI (Protected Geographical Indication), as well as processed products (including processed tomatoes and fruit, processed vegetables, fruit juices and concentrates and frozen fruit) all produced according to the best modern production methods within the EU.

In Russia, trade professionals will be able to learn more about the European Flavors campaign at World Food Moscow as well as during a special invitation-only evening produce showcase, An Evening of European Flavors on 25 September 2008 in Moscow.

An Evening of European Flavors will be dedicated to providing an overview on European fresh fruit with a specific focus on Italy. As well as providing an opportunity for meeting Italian producers and exporters in a relaxed and pleasant environment, as part of a cocktail reception, the evening will provide information on the range of products covered by the campaign as well as information on the exporters and producers involved in the project. Furthermore, invited guests will learn about promotional and marketing activities, including POS and in-store promotions, planned for 2009. An evening not to be missed by Russian trade professionals interested in working with Italian exporters and producers.

"The importance of the Russian market for Italian produce is acknowledged by everyone and our participation at World Food Moscow with our presence through the European Flavors stand is a great opportunity for demonstrating the competitiveness and importance of Italian produce in global markets," declares Paolo Bruni, President of CSO.

The European Flavors stand at World Food Moscow provides an ideal opportunity for Russian trade professional to meet Italian exporters and producers.

Renzo Piraccini, CSO Managing Director, confirms, "The Russian market is of great interest to us and we are sure that Italian produce can satisfy the toughest demands of a Russian market experiencing tremendous growth. Apart from our extensive range of conventional produce we also offer organic produce as a country amongst the leaders in organic food production".
