Ukraine's raisin imports up
Ukraine imported 7,300 tonnes of raisins in the first 5 months of the season 2012/13. This result was 11% higher compared with the same period of the previous season, according to State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
The share of imports in October-November amounted to 64% in total imports over the reporting period, or 4,700 tonnes. Last year, imports in October-November reached just 2,200 tonnes.
Iran remains the main raisin exporter to Ukraine. In July-November 2012, this country exported 4,500 tonnes of this product that was 1.4% higher year-on-year. India ranked second in this season thanks to almost sixfold increase in exports over last year: 1,200 tonnes.
Uzbekistan is currently third largest exporter of raisins to Ukraine. However, imports from this country fell by 19% to 939 tonnes in July-November 2012.
In the reporting period, Ukraine also imported raisins from the USA, Turkey, Chile and South Africa with total imports from these countries reaching 656 tonnes.
