Beetroot prices up in Ukraine

The demand for beetroots remains one of the most active among all traditional vegetables (onions, cabbage, beetroots, carrots). Beetroot prices have already started growing before New Year holidays and keep on increasing due to relatively high demand and a year-on-year decrease in production in the majority of Ukrainian farms, according to Fruit-Inform.

Many Ukrainian farmers have virtually stopped beetroot sales in the hope of a further increase in prices. The majority of growers plan to start selling no earlier than in the beginning of February.

Current prices of beetroots vary from UAH 1.20/kg (EUR 0.11/kg) to UAH 2.00-2.20/kg (EUR 0.19-0.21/kg), while last year these vegetables were sold at no higher than UAH 0.70-1.20/kg (EUR 0.07-0.11/kg).

As regards further prospects in the Ukrainian beetroot market, more information on it will be presented at the 5th International Conference “Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2013” that is to take place in Kiev, Ukraine, February 19-20, 2013.
