Kazakhstan more than quintuples onion exports

In January 2018 Kazakhstan has more than quintupled onion exports compared with the same month of the previous year, according to Fruit-Inform.

Kazakhstani onion exports almost totaled 5,000 tons, against just 926 tons in January 2017.

Cumulative exports in July 2017 – January 2018 amounted to 34,000 tons, a rise of 80% year-over-year, with significant changes in importers’ rankings. In the current season, Afghanistan became the leading importer of Kazakhstani onions, with import volumes totaling 23,600 tons. It should be noted that Afghanistan purchased no onions from Kazakhstan in the past season.

Turkmenistan ranked second thanks to steady 9,000 tons of imports. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan sharply reduced exports to Uzbekistan (the third largest importer), and they totaled just 475 tons, against 10,500 tons in July 2016 – January 2017.
