Tomatoes started to cheapen in Ukraine
Past year during a week on the 4th-11th of June tomatoes cheapened on 25-30% on the Ukrainian markets. This year the prices on tomatoes are significantly higher than in the previous year. Past year early June the wholesale price on tomato was USD $ 0.89-1.18/kg; this year the price has grown to USD $ 1.68-1.78/kg. The difference between the retail prices is even greater.
Great volumes of greenhouse tomatoes are supplied now on market. Such supply increase is sure to influence prices, so we can expect for the rapid price decrease in the nearest future. The wholesale price on tomato is still unchanged in Kyiv, but started to decrease in the southern oblasts. As Roman Rybalko, the Price Monitoring Specialist of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP) reported, the tomato supply has grown very much on "Kopani" market, Kherson oblast, and the prices have gone down to USD $ 1.48/kg.
