Ukrainian vegetables from storages are sold twice as cheap mid February 2007 than a year ago

According to the results of the wholesale prices monitoring conducted by the "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal on the produce markets of Ukraine, as of February 16th 2007 the wholesale prices for potato, onion, cabbage, carrot and table beet are in average twice as cheap comparing to the prices recorded at the same period of time past year.

For example, potato costs in average 45% cheaper this year; notably, the low quality potato costs 60% and more cheaper than it was past year. Cabbage is sold twice as cheap: past year this product cost around $0.45/kg, at the present moment the price is about $0.21-0.23/kg. Onion is 38-42% cheaper. The price for carrot has declined the most dramatically, 60% and more. Table beet is 45-55% cheaper.

The farmers worry much about the problematic produce sales; they speak about dull sales. Only those farms admit an active demand which possess the high-quality products or which have signed the tentative agreements beforehand.
