Ukraine: cucumber and tomato prices are zooming
The rapid increase of cucumber and tomato prices is recorded on Ukrainian market. The specialists of CIS produce business periodical, "Agrooglyad: Fruits and Vegetables" weekly explain this situation by the following factors. First, the early-finished sales of field products are obvious this season. Many farms were unable to supply quality tomato as soon as in the end of August; they explained the deteriorated quality by a long-lasting heat. Because of the same reason the shortage of marketable cucumber supplies stimulated the price growth on market as early as in the first half of August.
Second, many greenhouses are starting active sales at the present moment; the prices for greenhouse cucumber and tomato are actually growing day-by-day. The specialists of the greenhouse complexes explain this fact by the steadily high interest of the export-oriented companies, which are ready to pay a rather high price for greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes. As of today, there are deals on cucumber and tomato sales to Russia and Belarus for the prices $0.94-1/kg and $0.7-0.9/kg respectively. So, as of today tomato prices are in average 40-50% higher, cucumber prices are 50-60% higher than at the same period of time in the previous year in Ukraine.
