Holland controls 70% of seed potato world exports
NIVAP informs, Holland presently controls around 70% of the world trade of seed potato; the country annually exports over 700,000 tons to approximately 80 countries. In total, according to the experts' evaluations, the annual world exports of seed potato amounts to 1 mln. Tons. At the same time, Holland allocates cultivation areas for seed potato which do not exceed 35-40,000 ha.
Ukraine and Russia are the largest potato producers in Europe - together they annually harvest around 55-60 mln. tons of potato. These countries belong to the world largest potato producers. Also, Ukraine and Russia have been becoming the largest consumers of imported seed potato which is primarily supplied by Holland.
That's why in 2007 "Agrooglyad: Fruits and Vegetables" will pay peculiar attention to the issues of production, post harvest handling and marketing of potato during the CIS largest international conferences "Fruits&Vegetable Business of Russia 2007. Wealth of New Opportunities" and "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007. Meeting New Leader". The largest potato producers from Ukraine and Russia are expected to participate in the conferences, as well as the suppliers of Dutch seed potato and the companies-suppliers of equipment for potato washing, sorting and packing.
