Ukraine: demand for root crops remained low
Overproduction of carrot and beet is the characteristic feature of the current vegetable season. At the moment most growers have difficulties with sales. According to the prior forecast provided the specialists of Fruit-Inform project, this year carrot and beet crop will increase by 30 % compared to the last year. Demand decreasing from retail chains and budget organizations which had to reduce purchasing volumes due to complicated economic situation has an additional negative impact on sales.
In the current conditions, most agrarians have to decrease selling prices in order to attract potential customers. At the moment prices for carrot and beet are declared within a range of 0.09- 0.12 euro/kg and 0.07- 0.11 euro/kg, respectively. Most farms rejected sales during the current period and laid all the volumes for storing to winter.
